The demand for coconut oil is getting higher today, making many people try to take advantage of it. Because of this, more knowledge about coconut oil is needed. And, here are some things to know about coconut oil.
What Is Coconut Oil? Coconut oil itself is one of the ingredients in a coconut flesh. In old coconut flesh, there is at least 34.7% of coconut oil that can be taken. Usually, the ingredients used to produce coconut oil consist of 2 types. The first is fresh coconut flesh and the other is copra or dried coconut flesh.
Coconut cream Coconut milk is the first step to extract coconut oil from coconuts. Coconut milk itself is a type of emulsion. That is, the molecules in the coconut milk do not mix. So, there are parts of water and oil itself. Because of this, when the coconut milk is allowed to stand, these two types of solutions will separate by themselves.
Extraction Process This process is a process used to extract oil from coconuts. The final product of this process is coconut oil. The extraction process can be done in 3 ways, namely:
- Wet process (wet process), this process is done by adding water to the coconut milk.
- Dry process, this process uses pressure, in the form of mechanical energy. The goal is to break the cell wall to get the oil.
- Heating process, using heat to damage the cell walls in coconut milk. This aims to more easily separate the oil and water solution.
